In 1954, at President Eisenhower's urging, the Congress
legislated that “under God” be added to the pledge of allegiance making the
pledge read: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all."
That change was a travesty to the original pledge of allegiance and our
constitution. It was a serious violation of the separation of church and
state and our constructional rights. America was not founded on
Christianity and the belief in God, it was founded on freedom for all, not just
the religious. Adding the words under God does not make it true and it
transgresses our constitution. If one wants to pledge their allegiance to God,
they should go to Church. I will always honor and respect the original Pledge of Allegiance.
